Switch tower in Louisiana, MO, 1972 Behind the tower the GM&O tracks go over the swing bridge on the Mississippi river while the CB&Q tracks run parallel to the river in front of the tower. At the time of the photo the GM&O was only a few months away from a merger with the Illinois Central, while the Burlington Northern had already taken up the CB&Q. The tower was torn down in the 1980s.
